Your Puppy Hits A Few Milestones At Around 4 Months Old

We reduce our puppy’s feeding schedule by going from 1 cup of food 3 times a day to 1.5 cups of food 2 times a day. I don’t have to worry about that snack anymore. What Should Your Puppy Know At 4 Months Of Age?

During the 3-6 month period, I usually notice puppy bliss as my puppy is still relatively small and cute, he listens, and understands most of the basics.
Puppies seem to hit a regression around 6 months.
My dog is much bigger and not as easy to handle.
Around the 6 month mark is when we take a step back with our puppy training.
It is similar to the defiant teenage years we see in our human children.
What are we going to do?
When we hit a regression in training, we take a step back and work from the beginning.
If our puppy starts having potty accidents in the house after we give him a little freedom, we will put him back on his leash and keep an eye on him 100% of the time.
Before he has an accident in the house, this allows us to catch him.

How Was Archer As A 4 Month Old Puppy?

I don’t want to say it, but he was a better behaved puppy when he was 4 months old.
He may be better at something than others.
Puppy zoomies are the biggest bane for Archer at 8 months.
When he was a kid, we probably should have known about this.
During a zoomies attack, Archer jumped on the bed and was willing to play the chase game with anyone.
This behavior was not seen in the 4 month old version of Archer.
He had puppy zoomies at 4 months and we should have done a better job of keeping him in control.
It’s a quick tip. One of our favorite ways to manage puppy zoomies is to put our pup on a short 4 foot tie down and give him his favorite chew toy. Bully Sticks are great because they give your puppy a chance to calm down.

Things to do this month:
Puppy behavior.
Your puppy will need lots of time to burn off its energy and learn to play nicely. Give your dog lots of toys to play with so they get a lot of mental stimulation. They don’t become bored. Make sure they have plenty of time to relax and sleep.
Pet grooming.
The grooming salon is a good place to take your puppy for their first cut. Most dog groomers offer an introductory session for puppies to get them used to being handled by a person. Stay with your puppy the first time they go to the groomers, keep it short and take lots of tasty treats. Going to the groomers will be a positive experience for your puppy. It’s a good idea to brush your puppy at home. They are happy about keeping their coat tangle free and being groomed.
Adult teeth.
Most of your puppy’s baby teeth should have been lost by now. They should have lots of teething chews to stop them from chewing on furniture and clothes.
Feeding time.
Your puppy will need a puppy diet until they are 9 to 12 months old. It is important to weigh your puppy to make sure they are getting the right amount of food.
